Are You Sure You're Ready To Build?
You've purchased the property, designed the home and
finally have the building permits in your hands, but are you sure you're
ready to build? Have you worked everything out with your contractors,
architects and engineers? Well let's see if you've thought of
everything.
What time of the year is it? It's never a good idea to start building a
project in the wintertime. If you live in an area where it rains or
snows and you don't have your building foundation done, you could have
problems later with your soil or certain structural components. If you
do have your building foundation in and it's time to start framing the
house, wet plywood and wet wood can lead to other problems as it starts
to dry out or de-laminate.
Are there any utilities that need to be installed before home
construction can begin? This would also include any roads, septic tanks
or large trees that would need to be removed, prior to home
construction. Large trees can usually be cut down before the home is
constructed, a lot easier than after the house is built.
Have you found the right contractor? You're going to be working with
these guys for quite some time, it's extremely important that you get
along with your building contractor and their subcontractors. Obviously
you're not going to meet everyone who is going to work on your home,
before you start to work on it, but it's not a bad idea to make sure
that you get along with the general contractor or main subcontractors,
before the job actually starts.
